Behind The Desk August – Going Brunette, Graduation, Photoshoots and Secret Projects

This month has been awesome because it feels like a lot of things are wrapping up and I’m moving in to a slightly different stage in my life now.

I change my hair to brunette, graduated my Masters of Advertising, had an awesome photo-shoot and have been working on some secret projects under wraps. Not only that, but this blog got a bit of a refresh as did my business. So much newness and it's all very exciting.

Going Brunette
Well firstly, I feel like a bit of a new woman because of the dramatic hair change I underwent this weekend just gone.
If you are an OG reader, then you know I have been blonde for pretty much a solid decade so I was getting a little tired of the colour. I have also been trying to go heat-less whenever I style my hair because I started putting more importance on how healthy my locks were. So once I got the idea in my head there was no turning back! I’m excited to see how opting for a nourishing colour rather than putting bleach on my roots will improve the health of my hair. I’m also seriously loving experimenting with new lipstick colours that suit my hair or clothes that now look AWESOME because the colours are brought out more with brunette shades. So far I have absolutely no regrets at all and love my hair more and more each day. For some reason I feel more “me” in this colour – which is odd because it’s vastly darker than even my natural shade. I also got a good chop – yay no more split ends.

Graduating My Masters + Starting My Teaching Job
Yep,I did it! Graduated my Masters in Advertising! Graduation was even more fun than I originally thought it would be – but also a very draining day. I slept so well that night. It was awesome to spend the day celebrating an achievement I have worked so hard for – all the thousands of hours I put in studying, learning, exploring and completing assessment – lots of it. In the same week I graduated, I started my new role as a sessional academic at the University for a subject on ‘Social Media Management’. Always onto the next! I mean, a little break would have been nice but hey, it didn’t work out that way so I’m not complaining. Graduation was EPIC and my new tutoring gig is awesome! I’m learning a lot from the students I’m teaching and it’s really getting my creative juices flowing. Talking about content I’m so familiar with allows me to see it from a different perspective when I’m teaching because I explain it in a different way so that it’s easy to understand. It’s cool to get into the nitty gritty of what things mean as opposed to just implementing the concepts in my job each day.

Photoshoots and Secret Projects
My bestie Tristan is an amazing photographer and when I mentioned getting a few pictures to revamp my blog, business and brand a few secret projects I have in the works – he jumped at the chance. I’m seriously no model so having my best friend shoot me made me a lot more comfortable and we got some great pictures because of how natural I am around him! So I rebranded JDC Marketing Consultancy and I will write a post explaining this shortly because I don’t feel as though I have fully explained the brand and it might be confusing as to what it is for some readers. Essentially it has nothing to do with my blog but I know a lot of readers are interested AND if anyone also owns a small business, the information and free resources I put up there will be a life saver for you to know about. As for other secret project, there is on big one which will be launched shortly and one HUGE ONE that will be out, fingers crossed, by Christmas this year. Stay tuned.

Okay so that’s all from me! I have been busy, exhausted, struggling to keep up with everything, feeling inadequate half the time and uncertain of myself. But, I have also been feeling hopeful, excited, fulfilled and like I’m doing what I was born to do and enjoy doing. This balance of emotions is difficult but it’s so worth it at the end of the day to stand back and be like “yep, I did all that”.
