The Facial Features We're All Self-Conscious About

Everyone gets self-conscious about something at some point in their life. If you don’t, then I would love to know your secret! It would be amazing to walk out of the door and not have a nagging worry in the back of your mind about at least one of your features.

There are issues all over your body that probably get you really down in the dumps. But, I find most people are self-conscious about their face. It’s much harder to cover up your face, which makes certain features a real confidence destroyer. Today, we’ll look at some of the common facial features that cause self-esteem issues, along with a few words of wisdom on how you can embrace or change them.

Big Nose

So many people are self-conscious about their nose, mainly because it’s too big. It could be too long, stick out too much, be too wide; you name it, and people are self-conscious about it. Unless your nose has become bigger because you broke it, then it’s all down to genetics. But, this won’t stop you from feeling very down in the dumps about how it looks.

Personally, I think the best way to approach this is by embracing your genetics. Try and accept that your nose is a sign of your family - it’s almost a special part of your body that distinguishes you from other people. This is a difficult mindset to get into, but it can definitely help. Or, you can enhance other features on your face/body to draw attention away from your nose. If you’re really having confidence issues, then a nose job might be right for you. But, only do this if you literally can’t live with your current nose as it causes you too much stress.

Double Chin

I think that the main reason people hate having a double chin is that it makes them feel fat. It gives them a round-looking face with no jawline, which some people don’t like. To make matters worse, most people get double chins because of genetics - rather than being overweight. So, it seems like there’s nothing you can do to get rid of it, and you’re cursed with one forever.

There are a couple of ways you can address this issue. For starters, try adopting a healthy lifestyle so you can lose some weight. If your double chin is the result of excess body fat, this can help get rid of it. Alternatively, there are treatments like the kybella double chin removal that are great options for people with a genetic double chin. It helps to remove the excess fat, giving you the defined look you’ve always craved, and boosting your confidence.

Panda Eyes

No, this is not a technical term, but it does an excellent job of explaining the issue many people have. Basically, you’ve got black bags or dark circles under your eyes, making you look a bit like a panda. While undoubtedly an adorable animal, most people don’t enjoy this look at all. It’s one of the worst feelings ever looking at yourself in the mirror and seeing your black eyes. It makes you look much older, tired, and almost as though you’ve been punched in the face.

The good news about this facial feature is that it can be reversed and prevented with relative ease. Firstly, start addressing the cause; a lack of sleep. If you start going to bed earlier and sleeping for longer, then these bags will become a thing of the past. Secondly, you can get serums that work to reverse the black eye effect, which restores them to their former glory. All the while, you can also cover them up using some good makeup.

Light/Thin Eyebrows

Eyebrows have become such a hot facial feature in the last decade or so. Everyone wants to have nice dark eyebrows that are fairly thick. So, when yours are incredibly light and thin, it makes you self-conscious. You can look much younger, and it even seems like you have no eyebrows at all when they’re very fine.

Again, you can counter this. There are temporary options, such as drawing on your eyebrows or getting a temporary eyebrow tattoo. Then, you have a longer lasting option in microblading - which is more of a permanent tattooing option. There’s a video below that shows you what happens during this process.

Remember, it’s okay to feel self-conscious and want to change things about yourself. Yes, you should try and love the features you’ve been given, but this is sometimes impossible. The facial features mentioned above are common causes of self-confidence issues, and I hope there’s some helpful advice here that’ll help you get over them and feel more confident.
