SPLURGE OR SAVE: SUMMER NAIL COLOURS

When it comes to nail polish it's unlikely someone is going to be able to tell the difference between a high end and drugstore varnish.

That's why finding drugstore dupes for more expensive brands is so amazing and today I have two Summer nail polish colours to share with you; offering an OPI polish and an affordable Maybelline shade to choose between.

OPI "Do You Lilac It" vs. Maybelline "Iced Queen 310"
OPI Do You Lilac It is a cult classic and has been making the rounds on beauty blogs for years but when I saw a similar shade in the Maybelline Color Show range I was excited to give it a go. The colour is the perfect glossy pastel purple. A lot of times the drugstore alternative won't wear as nicely but in this instance the quality was so comparable and just like the OPI shade, you have an opaque colour in one coat.

OPI "Shorts Story" vs. Maybelline "Pinkalicious 170"
You can't go past a stunning creamy candy pink for the Spring time and OPI Shorts Story is always my go-to nail polish. When the Color Show collection dropped I couldn't help but notice how similar Pinalicious was to Shorts Story and sure enough, similar to Iced Queen, the quality was just as great. The same milky candy pink shade but for less than half the price.

Pricing
OPI retails for $20 in department stores but you can more than likely find them in pharmacies and chemists these days. The past few years, their prices have dramatically decreased in Australia due to their increasing accessibility. You can get your hands on Maybelline Color Show nail polishes for just $5.95 but often much less since they go on sale quite regularly. You can purchase them from Kmart, Target, Priceline, Big W, pharmacies and department stores.

Next time you're on the hunt for a seasonal nail polish, don't always head straight to the OPI counter or to other high end brands, instead shop around for some drugstore dupes because often they are great quality and extremely comparable colours.
