BATTLE OF THE LIPSTICK PENCILS

Lipstick pencils have been around for years but only recently have so many affordable options become available in the drugstore.

In this post we are taking a look at five options currently on the markets and I will be giving you my opinions on which is best.

Maybelline Color Drama Velvet Lip Pencils ($9.95)
I recently professed my love for this new lipstick pencil range and I'm still adoring them more than ever. There are so many colours I can't wait to wear once the weather gets a bit cooler so the shades suit more. You might be better off reading the full review here but basically they are incredibly pigmented, have a beautiful smooth formulation and an amazing colour selection.

BOE Jumbo Wind Up Lips ($32)
The similarities between this product and the cult classic Clinique chubby (try saying that ten times in a row) stick. The colour pigmentation is definitely comparable too and although they are different colours, the level of transparency is very similar. That leads me to conclude that we have a great dupe on our hands, saving you more than $30. This product is available in a range of colours, from Big W.
Score: 6/10

MaxFactor Colour Elixir ($9.95)
Despite how comparable these initially look to the Maybelline Velvet Lip Pencils, they are a much different product. The concept still remains a lip colour in the form of a pencil but the formulation is much more glossy. If anything, it is almost like a hybrid between the Maybelline and BOE products.

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense ($35)
The colour range is fantastic, with a huge variety of colours to choose from. The packaging is adorable and definitely secure (no lids popping off here). However, I definitely penalised this product considering how expensive it is. After trying so many more affordable alternatives, I can definitely see there are options on the market better in terms of price. Read more about this product/purchase it here.
Score: 7/10

Ulta3 Colour Me Pretty Lipstick Crayon ($4.95)
This product definitely lets me down in terms of packaging since the lid has a tendency to pop off and this actually caused damage in the inside of one of my Louis Vuitton bags. The colours are nice but the quality is comparable to BOE, of which is less than half the price.

Score: 4/10

The Verdict: Your best options are the Maybelline Velvet Lip Pencils and the BOE Jumbo Wind Up Pencils. The MaxFactor product compares to the Maybelline but in terms of quality, the Velvet Lip Pencils are the best quality. BOE is my choice over Ulta3 because the packaging is definitely more secure and the product is very similar. In my opinion, Clinique isn't worth the $35 because of all these new drugstore alternatives and you could buy one of each for the same price as just one Chubby Stick.
