3 EASY WAYS TO DECLUTTER YOUR HOME

I had no idea how much unnecessary stuff I had crammed into my house until I recently started going through everything - draw by draw. If you are anything like me then you probably have no idea where to start so I am sharing with you 5 tips I learned along my decluttering journey.

After hearing all the fuss about Marie Kondo's book The life-changing magic of tidying up I was inspired to give my house a real overhaul and I have to admit - it really is life changing.

I have heard for years the hype of a materialistic lifestyle but that has just never been practical for me (or so I thought) because I just have so much stuff that comes along with being a content creator. Maybe some of you have the same issue? Between lighting, camera equipment, IKEA Alex drawers stuffed with makeup and of course the boxes on boxes of unused products. Let's just say that bin day is now my favourite day of the week because it means I can start throwing out more stuff.

1. Declutter is actually defined as removing unnecessary items so let's start there. Open and draw or cabinet and assess the situation - do you use all of these things? Is everything in here necessary? Maybe you haven't used your juicer in 3 years - time to give it a toss, pass it on, sell or donate.

2. Following the minimalist lifestyle, it says you don't need a lot in your life. What this means to me is if I have 20 highlighters and 6 of them are yellow - you better believe I'm getting rid of 5 yellow highlighters. Only keep the items you truly use and need.

3. So here is where we address the root of the problem. I realised that I may have been a mindless shopper who would buy things without particularly needing them or having a use for them. Or I would buy things that I already had but forgot that I had (I'm talking to you 6 yellow highlighters). Before you buy anything ask yourself if you really need it and if it has a purpose in your home. I'm not talking about groceries or even new makeup. I'm referring to random Target sprees where I buy 3 cute bowls, a mug with a puppy on it and 3 packs of pens.

Those are my three biggest tips for decluttering your home and the things I found most helpful on my own journey. Let me know if you would like to see a follow up post on this because I could really sit here for hours talking about this sort of stuff.

Thanks for reading!

Great post Jordy! I am a big believe in decluttering! I do it every few months and sell, donate or toss anything I'm not using. It feels so good when you get it done! xx
