SPRING TRENDS: FUTURE MEETS THE PAST

There are lots of reasons to love spring. But one of the best reasons to look forward to this season is the fun fashion we get to wear!

Spring generally embodies brightness and warmth, so it’s no wonder the clothing styles we see are not shy to mimic the vivacious vibe. And what’s not to love about that?

Designers at fashion weeks around the world just finished showcasing their spring/summer 2016 collections, but Australia has the luxury of taking these trends to the streets right away, so there’s no need to wait until next year! With that said, it’s time to list the hautest looks you need to try immediately, according to the runway recaps.

The spring fashion front is flourishing with an eclectic mix between the old and the new, which means there will be a lot of unexpected combinations, presented in the chicest of proportions. This spring, you’ll be thinking like a historian and a psychic, because trends are coming from both ends of the time spectrum. Let’s see what types of pieces stood out the most during fashion month and the best beauty techniques to top them off.

Flash Forward
Ultramodern accents are all the rage for spring, so start thinking like a time traveller. Spring forward to the future with flashy, metallic details. As seen on the footwear from Valentino, Balmain and Loewe, the best way to tap into your space-age style is to wear it on your feet for just enough sparkle without looking too gaudy.

Feeling Blue
You may remember bold, blue eyeshadow from the ‘80s and thought (hoped!) it would never return. Well, according to Diane Von Furstenberg and a few others, blue is back, and it’s electrifying. The futuristic twist on this beauty throwback? Instead of overwhelming your lids with the shade, makeup artists simply lined the eyes with blue pencil for an unexpected pop, and then kept the rest of the look simple and clean.

Slip ‘N’ Stride
Making its way down the runway in an impossible prim but punk fashion, the slip dress got a maxi makeover that leaves the door wide open for pairing with edgy accessories. Though the slip dress has been around for a few seasons, Lyst is showing silky, floor-gracing slip dresses that prove this updated version is what’s hot now.

All Dolled Up
The Twiggy-esque doe eyes from the ‘60s meet the middle-parted, straight strands of the ‘70s for a modernised look. Louis Vuitton redefined chic with dramatic, cartoonish lashes, brought down to size with bohemian braids, offering just the right balance of these conflicting styles. One thing is for sure: Doll eyes are back, and they’re more daring than ever.

These four fashion and beauty trends are just begging to be brought to light. This spring is all about taking chances and having fun with your look. Trade in some of your safe pieces for stunning separates that you can mix into your wardrobe, adding updated style to your old-fashioned favourites.
