Planning for my 21st - What do I need to do first?

This November I become 21. A 21st birthday is a pretty big deal and I’m really looking forward to it. It’s a great opportunity to throw a party and the chance to celebrate with all my friends is something to get excited about it. So I’m already looking at how I can make it truly special.

Of course, it’s still a while away yet, but there are some things to think about now if it is going to be as fun as I hope it will be. I’m a long way off details but I’ve had a few ideas to help make it all go smoothly.

Sending Save the Date cards
I think these are a great way to make sure your friends and family can all have the date as far in advance as possible. This is essential if you are hoping to have relatives or friends who aren’t local or need to plan travel or time off work. You could just create a Facebook event page, I might do that as well but Save the Date cards are much more personal. They don’t even have to be cards, you can get them made as fridge magnets. I don’t know about you but I find Facebook events can easily be missed in a load of notifications. But first things first…..

I need to book a venue!
Ideally I need to book the venue as soon as possible to make sure i can get my preferred date. The only problem here is that I haven’t decided on one yet. There are a few possibilities but I can’t say that I think I’ve found the perfect place to have it. There are no shortage of 21st birthday venues but I’m looking for something that’s maybe a bit out of the ordinary. You’re only 21 once!

I need to choose a theme!
I like to try and be as organised as possible and am always writing lists and schedules. Choosing a theme for my party will make things easier for me. Once I am decided on a theme it will also mean I have less choice as there will be no point in wasting time looking at stuff that doesn’t fit in. I really like classic themes like black and white, fancy dress, and ideas with an element of creativity so you can really express yourself. I dressed up as Lady Gaga in 2009 for my birthday party but I don’t think I’ll be doing it again this year!.

I need to book anything I need as far in advance as possible...
Planning on having any music or entertainment? If you want a DJ, a band or any other entertainment you really have to book as far ahead as possible. You might not be able to get your first choice if you leave it too late. Party entertainers get booked up months in advance. OF course, you have to try and decide what you would like first, and that’s a whole different matter. There are so many choices, I still don’t know what I’ll do. I’m hoping I can make up my mind before it is too late!

It all seems a bit daunting and overwhelming but I’m hoping for a little bit of help from my friends and family. I wouldn’t want to spend it without them, so I want this party to be the best to show how much I appreciate them all in my life.

Do you have any interesting or unusual party ideas? Please leave them in the comments, I’d love to hear them.
